Pregnancy is a very exciting time, but can be full of unanswered questions as you plan for the birth of your baby. The Maternity Parent Education Team aim to offer a wide choice of evidence based antenatal classes, where you can ask those questions, explore your options for pregnancy, birth and beyond, whilst meeting other expectant parents.  Antenatal Classes: Your Pregnancy, Your Choice!

Come and discuss your options with a Midwife on ‘The Birth Centre’ Aspen Ward.

Birth Planning Classes (Out of Area) 

Birth planning classes specifically designed for women choosing to have their baby at Darent Valley Hospital. These classed are aimed at ladies 34-37 weeks pregnant, from out of the area and who are under the care of a Community Midwife.

Breastfeeding workshop

        

Are you pregnant and would you like to find out more about breastfeeding? Then book a place on one of our antenatal breastfeeding workshop. Recommended for 30 - 36 weeks,

WHEN: Wednesdays 10am - 12 Noon.

             NO spaces available on the following Wednesdays:

             5th, 19th and 26th September

             3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th October

Caring for your New Baby Class

 

The Maternity Department invites you to our information sessions on caring for your new baby.

WHERE: Darent Valley Hospital 

WHEN: One Saturday every month - AM Sessions 10am – 1pm or PM Sessions 1. 30 pm - 4.30pm

Epidural Class - informal Q & A


The truth about epidurals: What you need to know, including mobile epidurals. Have you had a previous bad experience with analgesia, suffer from back problems or are simply anxious and would like to know more about epidural analgesia in labour? Then why not call and book onto one of our monthly epidural classes, run by an experienced anaesthetist, who will explain all about analgesia in labour (specifically spinal and epidural anaesthesia).

Hypnobirthing courses

                

A preparation for birth course in which you will learn about the wonderful process of labour and how  you can positively influence it by acquiring positive perceptions and  learning to relax and to create a positive environment for birth.

Darent Valley Hospital - 4 week courses usually commence 1st Tuesday and 1st Wednesday of every month. 7.00pm and 9.30pm (2.5 hours)

Multiple Pregnancy Evening

 

Having more than one baby? Come and discuss multiple pregnancy and birth, feeding and early days, practical parenting tips and meet other parents to be.  All classes 7pm to 9pm in the Tambootie Seminar Room.

A healthy lifestyle course for women with a raised BMI, facilitated by midwives.

 Vaginal Birth after Cesarean Section (VBAC) Group Sessions

 

If you have had a C-Section before and wish to try for vaginal delivery or are still undecided, our VBAC group is open to you one Saturday morning a month. Come along to know more about the VBAC process and learn valuable coping skills for your labour.

Waterbirth workshops

            

The workshop is interactive and couples look at the benefits of water and the benefits of using water in labour.

  • Meet other couples planning a water birth; 
  • Explore active birth and the use of water for complementing any birth experience; 
  • Receive support in choosing to use water for labour.
