Dickinson, Mr Ian
Urology Consultant
Sub-specialises in andrology and is the paediatric urologist for the Trust. He treats all aspects of erectile dysfunction and infertility and holds a dedicated clinic for these patients.  He has pioneered short stay TURP when patients are discharged on the day after surgery rather than the usual 3-5 day stay when performed by more traditional methods.

Urology unit

The urology unit is part of the Surgical Specialities Directorate at Darent Valley. We are proud to acknowledge that the Directorate has been awarded the Investors In People Award for its dedication and commitment to staff. The Directorate General Manager is supported by a team comprising of a Modern Matron, Risk Manager and Ward Sisters and provide an efficient and effective service to both patients and staff across the surgical, orthopaedic and urology units.

The Trust has a complement of 3 Urology Consultants who, with their knowledge, expertise and professionalism, are able to care and treat patients presenting with urological problems here at Darent Valley Hospital.  The consultants are supported by a team of doctors and nurses who, between them, have a wealth of urological knowledge and are instrumental in innovative technology advances within medical care.  The Urology Specialist Nurses provide nurse led clinics and conduct flexi cystoscopies.

Mr Ravi – specialising in uro-oncology (treatment of urological cancer cases), reconstructive surgery and general urology cases.  Mr Ravi has written many articles, including papers on testicular tumours, penile cancer, bladder cancer.  He has also been voted a NHS Champion for the past two years for his dedication and experience within urology.

Mr Sriprasad – specialising in endoscopic procedures for urology cases.  This is a new appointment to the Trust which will provide high tech, leading edge surgery for the removal of stones.

This skill mix provides the Urology Department at Darent Valley Hospital with dedicated care and treatment for urology patients. The recent innovative endoscopic procedures allow the patient to receive less intrusive surgery and a speedier recovery time. Urology procedures are carried out in both day care and within the in-patient setting.  We are able to offer Trans Urethural Rescection of Prostate (TURP) procedures within our day care setting, thus reducing the length of time patients are in a hospital environment allowing patients to have the least amount of disruption to their social and family commitments.

Urology ward

A dedicated and experienced team of nursing staff operate on Juniper and Cherry ward to look after you during your stay at Darent Valley Hospital.  Here, ward staff are able to offer professional advice on your treatment and care whilst you are in hospital and once you have been discharged from hospital.  Patients can be re-assured that their care and treatment will be handled by professionally trained staff who are both committed and dedicated to the health and well being of our patients.  The ward environment boasts a low infection rate thus assisting the hospital with low MRSA figures.
