Referring yourself to Darent Valley Hospital

Having your baby at Darent Valley Hospital

Congratulations on your pregnancy

To book your pregnancy care you do NOT need to visit your GP to obtain a referral to the hospital.  You can refer yourself by complete the online SELF REFERRAL FORM (HERE), or download the A PAPER FORM (HERE) (in MS Word) and fax/send it to us on 01322 428192. Depending on your pregnancy and individual circumstances, you can choose to have your baby in our Midwifery led Unit, on our Labour Ward, or at home.

What happens with your referral?

  • On receiving your self referral form to tell us you are pregnant, we will send you an email confirming we have received your form (only when an email address has been provided).

  • We will arrange your first visit with a Midwife. This is known as the ‘booking’ visit.  It gives you the opportunity to meet your Midwife and start planning your pregnancy care. This will take place at your local GP Surgery or Children’s Centre, at your home, or in our Antenatal Clinic. You will be able to discuss the choices available to you at Darent Valley Hospital. This will take a few weeks to arrange.
